Welcome to Brisbane

Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland - Australia's 'Sunshine State'. Its subtropical climate, friendly atmosphere, and cultural diversity attract many businesses, industries, and visitors. Even in winter, Brisbane's subtropical climate provides dry, warm, and sunny days.

Brisbane is cosmopolitan, with people from many different ethnic backgrounds calling the city 'home'. In fact, more than 20 per cent of Brisbane's population was born overseas. Annual cultural festivals representing the city's multicultural diversity are held throughout the year.

QUT

QUT is close to all the attractions and amenities of the city centre. From the gates of the Gardens Point campus, it is only a five-minute walk to Brisbane's City Heart - the Queen Street Mall. The mall and surrounding area accommodate many of the city centre's finest restaurants, cinemas, hotels, key businesses, the best shops, and the Treasury Casino.

Attractions

Southbank Parklands and cultural precincts are a short ferry trip across the Brisbane River from QUT's Gardens Point campus. Southbank is a relaxing place to walk in the parklands, swim in the public lagoon, or shop at the markets. It is next to Brisbane's huge convention centre and close to the Queensland Museum, Art Gallery, and public library.

Transport

In particular, City Circle buses stop at QUT every five minutes during the day, and continue on to the Queen Street Mall, train station, and Transit Centre. Buses also travel to the city and QUT from many suburbs, and are complemented by the comprehensive train network.

For travel on or across the river, regular ferries and high-speed 'City Cats' service the University. Bus, train, and ferry passes are available at student rates for frequent travel. The popular Gold Coast and Surfers Paradise are just south of Brisbane, and easily accessible by road or rail. North of Brisbane, the relaxed atmosphere of the Sunshine Coast, and other attractions such as rainforests, mountains, and national parks are only a short drive from the city.

Airports

Brisbane has both a domestic and international airport, making travel within or from Australia very simple. The international airport attracts the major European, Asian and American carriers, with daily flights to London, Singapore and Los Angeles, for example.
